What PixelArtPro is
PixelArtPro is a free image-to-pixel-art converter that lives entirely in your web browser. Drop in a photo, portrait, illustration, or screenshot, and it turns it into authentic retro pixel art — with adjustable pixel size, palette quantization, dithering algorithms, and retro console palettes — then exports your work as crisp PNG or infinitely scalable vector SVG.
There is no app to install, no account to create, and no queue to wait in. The tool is deterministic rather than AI-generated: every conversion uses precise color quantization, downsampling, and dithering math, so you keep full control over the result — no hallucinations, no blurred mush, no surprises.
Why we built it
Most "free" image tools charge you in the currency of your data: forced accounts, email walls, your uploads sitting on someone else's server, and a watermark burned across your work unless you pay to remove it. We found that trade unacceptable for something as personal as your own photos.
So PixelArtPro was designed around three refusals:
- No signup. Open the page and start converting. There is nothing to register for and no email wall between you and your art.
- No watermarks. Your exports come out clean, at full resolution, with nothing stamped across them — ever.
- No uploads. Your images are processed on your own device and never sent to us or anyone else. We architected the privacy in; it is not a promise we have to keep, it is a capability we never built.
Two tools, one studio
PixelArtPro ships as two complementary tools:
- The main converter (pixelartpro.com) is built for speed. Drop an image, tune pixel size, palettes, and dithering with a live preview, and export. Perfect when you want a great result in under a minute.
- The Advanced Pixel Studio (/advanced-editor/) is for artists who want full manual control. It adds a real pixel-level editor — draw and erase pixel by pixel, build and save custom palettes, sample colors from your canvas, and refine conversions by hand with authentic retro console palettes like Game Boy, NES, SNES, and PICO-8.
Both tools are free, both are client-side, and both export without watermarks.
How your images are processed
Every conversion happens on your device using HTML5 Canvas and the Web APIs built into your browser. When you drop in an image, it is read into your device's memory locally, downsampled to your chosen pixel grid, mapped onto a palette with perceptual CIELAB color matching, and dithered if you enable it — all without a single byte of your image crossing the network.
There is no server-side processing at all. That is why conversions feel instant, why the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded, and why we can honestly say your images never leave your device. Clearing your browser data removes any trace of your session — we keep no copy of anything you convert. You can read the full details in our privacy policy.
Who PixelArtPro is for
- Indie game developers prototyping sprites, tilesets, and character portraits with transparent alpha support.
- Graphic designers mocking up retro campaign art, merch designs, and 8-bit brand assets.
- Hobbyists turning pet photos, selfies, and landscapes into pixel-art portraits for prints and profile pictures.
- Educators demonstrating color quantization, dithering, and downsampling with a tool students can open instantly — no accounts, no installs, no IT approval.
If you make things with pixels, this studio is for you. And if you are learning the craft, our tutorials & guides walk through resolution planning, dithering, and retro workflows step by step.
Our commitment
PixelArtPro is free and will stay free. We keep improving the converter, we keep your work private by architecture rather than by promise, and we never sell or share data we never collected in the first place. Questions, bug reports, or feature ideas? The PixelArtPro team reads every message.
